Thursday Twilight Tunes Celebrate 20th season in 2013

Denton Main Street Association presents its award-winning concert series in downtown Denton starting May 2nd.  Named “Best Promotional Event” by the Texas Downtown Association in 2012, the concert event sets the tone for fun downtown every Thursday night in May and June, with a special July 4th afternoon concert. 

Join the fun on Thursday evenings on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn, 110 W. Hickory Street from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  The concert is held on the west side of the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn in May, and in June it moves to the east side of the courthouse lawn.  Admission is FREE. 

Bring your friends and family, get a meal-to-go from one of the many downtown eateries, bring a blanket or chairs, and enjoy an evening of great live music as the sun sets over downtown Denton.  The 2013 series offers an eclectic assortment of music from some of the best local bands in the Denton area. 

Twilight Tunes is the reason to stay in town for summer fun.  The following is the concert schedule for May, June and July 4th:

Arts, Antiques & Autos Extravaganza

Denton Main Street Association hosted the 14th annual event on Saturday, September 14th in 2013, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. around the square and beyond, 110 W. HIckory Street.  This classic, custom, and hot rod car and motorcycle show is complete with live music, fine arts/crafts, antique appraisals, kids’ fun and more. A silent auction featuring great downtown merchandise and other finds is held inside the courthouse during the event with bidding starting at 9 a.m. and open until 2 p.m. Antique appraisers will provide you information on general antiques (no furniture), art, clocks, cut glass, silver and jewelry.

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND - November 9th & 10th

Holiday Open House weekend. Shop and dine around as more than 20 stores and restaurants feature new holiday merchandise, specials, refreshments and a festive atmosphere to kick-off the holiday season. Beat the hustle and bustle and start on your list early as you relax, shop and dine in downtown Denton. Stores open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (store hours and participation may vary).

Wassail Fest during Denton Holiday Lighting

Friday, November 29th

Check out the delicious Wassail recipes at the more than 30 participating merchant locations around the historic downtown Denton Courthouse on the Square and beyond. Tasting usually begins at 5:30 p.m. and you can vote on your favorite!  Turn in the ballots by 8 p.m. and wait for the winner to be announced at the last concert on the lawn.

Participating merchants provide the wassail tasts for the attendees of Denton's annual Holiday Lighting Festival, which includes a tree lighting, crafts, music, caroling, performances by community arts groups, food and a rockin' holiday concert at 8 p.m..  For more information on this event, stay tuned.

 

Spring Open House 2013

The fun abounds around downtown on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 as the merchants of the Denton Main Street Association open their doors for Spring Open House and the Denton County Museums and Denton County Historical Commission celebrate the 167thbirthday of Denton County. The birthday party fun will be Saturday, April 6th on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn. This celebration promises entertainment, shopping, and dining fun all weekend long for everyone.

Downtown stores will be hosting their annual Spring Open House with extended hours on Saturday, April 6thand Sunday, April 7th. Come check out great boutique buys, restaurant specials, hidden treasures, books, sweet treats, arts and antiques in the many merchant establishments around downtown. More than 25 stores and restaurants are participating on Saturday, April 6thfrom 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 7thfrom 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (some store hours may vary). The Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum will also be open during the Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The weekend’s activities will take place on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn at 110 W. Hickory, as well as inside the courthouse and at participating merchant locations. First Friday Denton -

Acoustic Lawn Jam on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Lawn - FREE

Year-round: Every Saturday 10 a.m. to Noon (weather permitting). 110 W. Hickory Street on the courthouse lawn. An open, acoustic jam session for all levels of musician. Come to listen or bring your guitar, drums, fiddle, spoons or your best singing voice to join the fun.

Denton Farmers’ Market

June – September: Tues., Th., & Sat.
Denton County growers sell fresh produce during the growing season in North Texas. June through September – Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 12 noon, or Sell-out. Bayless-Selby House Museum Parking Lot, corner of Mulberry Street and Carroll Blvd. Market sponsored by Denton Country Growers Association. Community Market

Local artists and crafters sell at this market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in May through the first Saturday in December. Located at the Denton County Historical Park at the corner of Mulberry and Carroll Streets in downtown Denton. Visit www.dentonmarket.org/ for more details.
